The Punisher Dirty Laundry

The Punisher Dirty Laundry, also known more simply as Dirty Laundry, is a 2012 action short film based on the Marvel Comics anti-hero the Punisher. It stars Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman and is produced by Adi Shankar and directed by Phil Joanou. The film was first shown in 2012 at the San Diego Comic-Con International.

The short movie is very atmospheric and well produced with gritty exterior street shots combined with dreary interiors. Most things in this short film works well from the acting to the filming to the lighting. Thomas Jane and the other performers (including a small role from Hellboy Ron Perlman) give performances that bring the material to life and make the The Punisher: Dirty Laundry hang together as a film. One negative is the special effects, with the blood and gun effects not up to the rest of the production values.

The plot is ok but has been done before with the idea of an anti-hero trying to avoid becoming what they inevitably will be, which is somebody who can’t help but intervene. The Punisher is just trying to live a normal life (and it doesn’t get more mundane than do some laundry) when he stumbles onto innocent blood being spilt which fits with the original Marvel comics and the exploration of the ideals of punishment and justice.
