Next Floor

In the short film, Next Floor, during a luxurious banquet, complete with servers and valets, eleven pampered guests participate in ritualistic gastronomic carnage.

Next Floor is the surreal short film that is by turns absurd and grotesque with an unexpected sequence of events undermining the endless scenes of’ abundance. It is a clever social-commentary sprinkled with plenty of satire. The short film is  beautifully shot with special care for details especially with the food sequences.

The director Denis Villeneuve has also made Prisoner, with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, and Enemy, again with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Next Floor received a special jury citation for the Toronto International Film Festival Award for Best Canadian Short Film at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival and won the Genie Award for Best Live Action Short Drama at the 29th Genie Awards and the Prix Jutra for Best Short Film at the 11th Prix Jutra.

Running time: 12 mins.
Director: Denis Villeneuve.
Major Awards: Cannes, Canal+ award (2008), Toronto, best short film (2008), St Louis, best short film (2008)
